There is a saying that goes, “Hope for the best, but plan for the worst”, and this year our
planning in Skim2Live paid off, because the night before our 5th Annual Skim Jam the rain came
down. Skim Jam is the largest skimboarding competition in Texas, and is hosted by Skim2Live
each spring in order to raise money and awareness for breast cancer and progress the sport of
flatland skimboarding. The event is usually held in Cypress Creek, but this year, due to a heavy
storm the night before, the creek was flooded and we were forced to relocate to a nearby field.
There, we set up our Boyer Skim Pit, donated by Boyer Inc., and were still able to bring out
around 400 people and raise about $6,000 which we will be able to donate to The Rose,
Houston’s leading non-profit breast cancer organization. This is the most money we have ever
been able to bring in for a single event, and we’ve got to thank KCM Trucking and Equipment
Repair: our largest sponsor of the year.
Skim Jam could not happen without many people pitching in their time and efforts,
including our team members and many people in our community, especially this year since we
needed many people to step up last minute to make our back-up plan happen. At the event
this year we managed to have Skim School and three brackets of competition of which the
results follow:
Groms (15 and under):
1st-Ryan Cook
2nd- Jace Basford
3rd- Dayton Wilson
Amateurs:
1st- Chase Pesek
2nd- Shannon Read
3nd- Taylor Osteen
Pros:
1st-Isaac Thomas(DB)
2nd- Blake Zimmerman(DB)
3rd- Tony Sadler(DB)
4th- Alex DeLaFuente(DB)
5th- Nick Reeves(DB)

The cost of our ramps and rails for the competition was covered by the Deejr Company, allowing us to build
larger features and help progress flatland skimboarding. As our DJ kept the tempo up for the
day, we had our silent auction with items from Shannon’s Street Waves, DB Skimboards, Zed
Skimboards, Victoria Skimboards, Kyda Creations, and Banshee Bungee. We also raffled off a
custom DB skimboard with our Skim2Live logo and breast cancer ribbon, and held profit shares
with Chik-fil-a, Vonnie’s Snow Cones, and Big Frog’s Custom T-shirts and more.
In addition to selling our typical Skim2Live merchandise, such as leather bracelets
produced by Intaglia Arts, lanyards, and Car Decals, this year we are offering a couple of
products aimed at reducing environmental pollutants since environmental factors are one of
the main causes of breast cancer. We came out with organic Texas Skim Tour T-shirts produced

the main causes of breast cancer. We came out with organic Texas Skim Tour T-shirts produced
without any chemicals, and reusable water bottles to reduce the amount of trash in our Texas
waterways. In memory of Debi Seyler, we would like to remind everyone to check regularly for
breast cancer as early detection is key to survival, and encourage everybody to live a healthy,
active lifestyle to prevent similar diseases. We can’t wait to get back down to the creek and
want everybody to get out there and Skim2Live… Literally!
